Dunes City's Spring Pot
Luck |

Tables were decked out in blue and yellow and the council dais was laden a delectable assortment of main dishes, salads and desserts—amazingly well balanced since the only request was to “bring something you like to eat.”
Food, glorious food…fun, rainbows and friendship…that and more describe the first-ever Dunes City potluck on April 14, 2007 . Nearly 50 residents and their families gathered to share their favorite recipes, laughter, and the unique mixture of sunshine and rain that makes up an Oregon springtime
evening.

Folks could choose from fresh salmon appetizers, green salads, potatoes au gratin, barbequed chicken, southwestern goulash, noodles, a spinach dish, home made deep dish apple pie (still warm from the oven), fresh strawberries, an incredible strawberry sponge cake, apples and warm cheese…mmm…mmm…good! And there was more! |

Dunes City folks do know how to eat well. If you missed it you’ll just have to come next year..

The potluck was not a political event. There was no agenda and no entertainment. Folks just sat down with their neighbors and had a good time together.

One of the highlights to the evening was the fantastic rainbow that Councilor Peter Howison spotted as folks were preparing to leave.

Timing is everything, they say. For at least two couples it was a last minute decision to come to the potluck. They didn’t get their newspapers until late in the afternoon when they saw the article about the potluck. Why not head on down to Dunes City Hall and meet some of their neighbors? So they did. Everyone was delighted that they came.

It’s always fun to win something and the potluck provided many opportunities with a fantastic raffle. The grand prize was a gigantic pink wampler rhododendron. Other prizes included a yellow daisy outdoor flag, two huge butterfly kites, a ladybug kite, an herb garden, and other outdoor prizes. Carroll Mechanical donated all the raffle prizes.

All proceeds from the raffle will be rolled into the budget for the information and education committee which was created to help residents understand that a rural community that plays together and is informed together will stay together.
Mark and Cynthia Chandler, proud winners of the grand prize rhododendron, have decided to donate the Rhody to the new senior center soon to be built in Florence .
