Our Comprehensive plan reads that we can all continue making Dunes City a beautiful rural community -  simply by caring what we do.  No taxes, city water or sewer indicate a need to think differently than places where people pay for services.  Here, we all work to maintain our town.  Dunes City residents realize a few points:

  • Each individual must dispose of their own byproducts, find their own water and care for their own area relative to others.
  • Our ordinances are respected  When in doubt - ask, call the city.  Look for answers on the this website.  All volunteer councilors are accessible.  We depend on everyone to play a part.
  • Water – we drink it – we care for it.   Runoff is a problem especially if the runoff carries sediment to the lakes. Limiting the disturbance of land is important as doing so may create sediment ending up in the water.
  • Covering the earth with asphalt or concrete speeds the water and doesn't allow the earth to drink in the rain.
  • The area fifty feet near water is a “no touch” area.  When in doubt, ask.
  • Cutting trees near or in the water is prohibited.  A Permit is required.
  • Vegetation - stripping land and cutting trees is for city folks Dunes City folk know better - trees are great sponges and shade makers for vegetation nearby let alone why many bought property here.  We inform those stripping land to observe information on how you can make life better for us all by the right action.
  • A forward thinking community with a regional view of preservation continues to fill our future.  Citizens are involved in our planning.
  • Fertilizer (see Phosphorus Ordinance) gets into our waterways and creates phosphorus which feeds algae which turns water green.  Our Water Quality Control Committee has been working hard to inform people how harmful phosphorus is to our two lake town.
  • During the previous many months support has risen to create protection for our town by way of Septic Maintenance, Erosion, Phosphorus and Storm Water Control Ordinances.  We continue to set 'firsts' in the state for preventive awareness and ordinances.
  • Fish that don't belong, invasive weeds, sediment, fertilizer, bleach, and chemicals are things we can be made more aware.  Keeping them out of our water will help us all.

Preserve the earth and water here in Dunes City.

Do only what's necessary.

We only get one chance with our town as we know and appreciate it.
